New Swabia
New Swabia (Neuschwabenland) is a region in Antarctica between 20°E and 10°W, first explored by Germany in early 1939. It has since become the subject of various conspiracy theories involving secret bases and alien collaboration.
Historical Expedition[edit | edit source]
The German Antarctic Expedition of 1938–1939, led by Alfred Ritscher, aimed to find an area for a whaling station and expand Germany's territorial claims. The expedition mapped and photographed the region, which was named New Swabia after the German region of Swabia.
Conspiracy Theories[edit | edit source]
New Swabia has spawned numerous conspiracy theories, claiming the establishment of underground bases, a continued Nazi presence after World War II, and connections to extraterrestrial technology. These beliefs often intersect with notions of a secret space program and alleged military UFO conspiracies. Despite a lack of credible evidence, these theories have become a significant part of conspiracy theorist lore.
