Automatic citation generation enabled

The Citoid extension has been added, allowing citations to be automatically generated through the VisualEditor by entering a URL, DOI, ISBN, PMID, PMCID, or QID (as on Wikipedia). Refer to the MediaWiki VisualEditor User Guide.

Feedback or technical issues can be reported on the wiki Help page or this page.

Functionality issues (bugs/glitches)

  • "Last edited" message on pages shows wrong time after refreshing pages (noticed starting around 28 Dec) EnWikiAdmin (talk) 22:25, 31 December 2024 (UTC) This issue appears to have been resolved. --EnWikiAdmin (talk) 19:55, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
  • Automatic citations in VisualEditor for YouTube videos are returning generic information instead of specific details such as the YouTube video title, author (channel name), and upload date. This issue persists despite the fact that similar functionality works as expected on Wikipedia. The citation system appears to be retrieving only fallback metadata (like a generic description) and may not be handling YouTube's dynamically loaded metadata correctly. I have checked that the Zotero translator for YouTube is installed and active, and I have tested the translation-server endpoint directly, which only returns fallback metadata (e.g., generic descriptions and the URL). Attempts to adjust fallback settings and verify the configuration against known working setups (e.g., Wikipedia) have not resolved the issue. Citations for other sources, such as books via ISBN, appear to work correctly, suggesting the issue is specific to YouTube links. Additional insights or suggestions would be appreciated. Until this is resolved, editors may insert the Cite AV media template directly by inserting a Basic citation (which inserts <ref> tags) and inserting the template inside that. --EnWikiAdmin (talk) 22:47, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

Desired (planned) functionality

  • Hovering over an inline reference superscript causes a little pop-up next to it with the reference info in it. EnWikiAdmin (talk) 22:33, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
  • On desktop, font size of body text in articles should be 16px and in tables should be 14px, similar to Wikipedia. --EnWikiAdmin (talk) 23:46, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
  • A feature or outside script that adds unobtrusive external links to Wikipedia articles immediately after an internal link to the same article, if the Wikipedia article exists. --EnWikiAdmin (talk) 11:16, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
