= 1940s =
* June 24, 1947 - Private pilot [[Kenneth Arnold]] reported seeing [[Kenneth Arnold UFO sighting|nine crescent-shaped objects]] flying at high speed near [[Mount Rainier]], Washington, leading to the coining of the term "[[flying saucer]]."
