The name was chosen for that of the [[Subaru Telescope]], the {{convert|8.2|m|in|adj=on|sp=us}} flagship telescope of the [[National Astronomical Observatory of Japan]], located at the [[Mauna Kea Observatory]] on the island of [[Hawaii (island)|Hawaii]].
