The original Illuminati did not survive suppression in Bavaria. Their further mischief and plottings in the work of Barruel and Robison must be thus considered as the invention of the writers.<ref name="Stauffer" /> Despite this, they have been featured in many modern conspiracy theories predicated on their survival.
