== Usage ==

The first parameter represents the title for the proposed new page, and {{para|discuss}} provides a link to the discussion thread on the talk page of the article proposed to be split (it can be named explicitly or you can use the <code><nowiki>{{TALKPAGENAME}}</nowiki></code> [[WP:MAGICWORD|"magic word"]]; {{para|discuss|Talk:<nowiki>{{PAGENAME}}</nowiki>#Split proposed}} would also work). The example above produces:

Of course, the page "[[Title]]" already exists, but your actual page title will most likely be either a [[WP:REDLINK|red link]] or a [[WP:RDR|redirect]].

If more than one target article needs to be named, use the more robust template {{tl|Split portions}}:
* {{tlx|Split portions|portion{{=}}this section&nbsp;|{{var|First title to which to split}}&nbsp;|{{var|Second title to which to split}}&nbsp;|discuss{{=}}<nowiki>{{TALKPAGENAME}}</nowiki>#Split proposed&nbsp;|date{{=}}{{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTYEAR}}}} (supports up to 20 titles).

This template will add tagged articles to [[:Category:All articles to be split]], the proper dated subcategory of [[:Category:Article sections to be split]], and the proper dated subcategory of [[:Category:Articles to be split]].
